According to a  nationwide survey conducted by the YouGov opinion research institute on behalf of the newspaper “Welt am Sonntag,” 42 percent of Germans disagree with the statement: “Due to the history of National Socialism, Germany still bears a particular responsibility for the Jewish people.”

Accordingly, 43 percent of those surveyed (rather) agree with the statement “Against the background of the history of National Socialism, Germany still has a special responsibility for the Jewish people” to this day, 42 percent (rather) reject the statement. Approval here is highest among voters from the Left Party (65 percent) and the Greens (61), and lowest among AfD voters (26).

There is less agreement than disagreement among those with low and middle school qualifications, those aged 40 to 59, and those living in suburban and rural settings. All data are representative of persons entitled to vote in Germany. For the survey, 2147 adult German citizens were questioned online between May 5th and 9th.

In the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, the Germans are clearly on the side of the Palestinians. Only 13 percent see Israeli policy towards the Palestinians as (rather) just, 54 percent as (rather) unjust.

Voters from the Left Party (69 percent) and the Green Party (61 percent) most often consider Israeli policies to be (rather) unfair. Across all age groups, school qualifications and living environments, a large majority of respondents consider Israeli politics to be (rather) unjust.
