Annual report of the Research and Information Center for Antisemitism (RIAS) in Lower Saxony
The RIAS Lower Saxony documented a total of 100 antisemitic incidents in 2022. For the first time, two incidents of extreme violence are included. For example, a severely disabled participant in a counter-protest was attacked at a meeting. The man was pushed to the ground and lost consciousness. This report takes a look not only at the numbers and severity, but above all at the manifestations and ideological background of anti-Semitic incidents.
The spectrum is wide: antisemitism can be encountered by Jews in all social classes and in almost all public (and non-public) places. It also affects those who notice it and let it stand unchallenged; because it restricts civil liberties and endangers democracy. However, the incidents that have become known to RIAS Lower Saxony can only depict part of the reality. A large number of unreported antisemitic incidents can be assumed.
