Sharjah – An Emirati royal has compared the Holocaust to the deaths of Muslims in various wars, suggesting Jews have leveraged the Nazi genocide for sympathy and victimhood, while Muslims “move on.”
Princess Hend bint Faisal Al-Qasimi, a royal from the Al-Qasimi dynasty that rules Sharjah, the United Arab Emirates’ third-largest city, tweeted her complaint on Saturday, the latest in a long line of statements that have included scathing criticism of Israel, as well as antisemitism.
The princess has a following of over 533,000 people on Twitter. Her tweets often go viral, attracting thousands of retweets and likes.
On Sunday, she tapped into the antisemitic myth that Jews control global affairs, including international media, in her criticism of Israeli actions in Gaza.
“The media that is controlled by you know who, wants you to NOT EVEN FEEL AN OUNCE OF SYMPATHY FOR THE DEAD BABIES, by claiming their terrorist Daddies DELIBERATELY USED them as HUMAN SHIELDS. No one believes you. Grow up. Stop the war. #Gaza,” she wrote.
A look at Al-Qasimi’s online presence on Twitter and elsewhere suggests such statements are frequent.
In another post, she claimed Palestinians were suffering “the exact same” fate as that of Jews during the Holocaust.
“We’ve all cried at what the Nazis have done to the Jews in Germany. Yet, it’s funny how the very same Jewish Zionists don’t cry at the EXACT SAME thing that they are doing to the Palestinians. Take their homes if they don’t leave, terrorize them & bomb it. The dead don’t speak.”
The princess’s hostile views stand out primarily due to her status as a senior member of the royal family in the United Arab Emirates, which has enjoyed a blooming friendship with the Jewish state since the two countries signed a normalization agreement in 2020, as part of the US-backed Abraham Accords.
Her posts also stand out in a region where Holocaust denial is rampant.
Al-Qasimi first caught the international media’s eye in 2020 for her outspoken views on social media regarding Islamophobia.
“Hate speech is the beginning of genocide,” she wrote in April 2020. “Gandhi once said: ‘An eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind.’ Let us learn from the bloody history we have now documented and in pictures and film. Understand that death begets death & love begets love. Prosperity starts with peace,” she added.
In November last year, she waged an online assault against prominent Indian television anchor Sudhir Chaudhary, whom she accused of holding Islamophobic views.
Besides her online presence, Al-Qasimi is a businesswoman and a journalist and serves as the editor-in-chief of a lifestyle magazine.
